The 2017-18 CIE Lecture Series

The calendar for the new session of CIE Lectures is now finalised. Please not that we have some location and time variations. Where not stated the default will be the Chapel Lecture theatre at Tremough.

12th October is the delayed AGM followed by James Jobling-Purser, 3DMSI Ltd speaking on recent work surveying and modelling the old Belgian colonial-era underground mine at Kibali in the DRC.

26th October (Daphne Du Maurier Lecture Theatre A) Mike Proudfoot of Martine Minerals will speak on tin dredging off the Cornish coast.

7th November (Daphne Du Maurier Lecture Theatre A) Paul Bradley, Head of the Energy Division of the HSE, will deliver the 16th Annual Victor Phillips Memorial Lecture on the future importance of the UK mining industry.

12th December (The Stannary Refectory Area) Mining Quiz – Please contact Claire Yelland to inform her of your teams of four prior to the event.

11th January – Tom Clifford, Director of Riventa Ltd, will deliver the annual Don Dixon Memorial Lecture on Water Pumps and the sensing technologies that are used with them.

27th January (Time TBC) – Site Visit to Longrock Rail Depot Extension led by Nigel Blackler, Cornwall Council, Head of Transport). Inform Claire Yelland of desire to attend.

15th February – Matt Wilmot, Chief Mine Planning Engineer, Sirius Minerals Ltd will speak on The York Potash Project, a new polyhalite mine in the North East.

27th March – Owen Mihalop, COO, Strongbow Exploration Inc, will update the Institute on progress at South Crofty Tin Mine as it advances towards a restart of production.

6th April Р12:00 & 14:00 Undergound Site Visits to Soth Crofty. Visit led by Owen Mihalop, COO, Strongbow Exploration Inc, will illustrate the lecture. Inform Claire Yelland of desire to attend.

12th April – The AGM followed by Robin Andrew & Alan Ibbotson, Cormac, speaking on The Jubiilee Pool Refurbishment – Restoring the Jewel in Penzance’s Crown.

3rd May – Site Visit Jubilee Pool – A comprehensive tour of the restored seawater lido. Inform Claire Yelland of desire to attend.
